Wordpress Update Error: How To Fix The´Installation Failed´ Bug
Some Wordpress users are encountering problems in updating WP to version 2.8.3 and above.
The bug was found and resolved time ago and it is caused by class-wp-upgrader.php file, exactly by the function fs_connect () which returns the hidden error ‘directory does not exist‘.

How to fix the bug of WordPress update up to 2.8.3 and higher
It is necessary to replace the file class-wp-upgrader.php with the new release available in the Wp core repository; http://core.trac.wordpress.org/raw-attachment/ticket/10541/class-wp -upgrader.php.
The path of the file is: / wp-admin/includes/class-wp-upgrader.php. After the replacement you can upgrade your Wordpress platform without problems.
