Peer To Peer TV: Share Streaming Video With TvAnts

TVAnts is a web TV program based on BitTorrent technology: it allows you to share all audio/video streaming instead of sharing simple files, using peer to peer architecture in order to guarantee a real good streaming, even without an upper level band (as for those 512 Kpbs upload requested by TVKoo).

This application is free.

The official web site is only in Japanese version, so it is better for you to download it here. Its installer (for Windows only) is about 2,7 Mb. Once installed and started you will be shown the main interface, containing 5 control panels:

  • Servers
  • Search
  • Channels
  • Charts
  • Performance
  • Events

Tv Ants use

As specified before TVAnts stands to Web TV as BitTorrent is for files sharing: it allows you to share all audios/videos with a P2P technology. Servers chart is useful to specify which servers should be used to:

  1. Handle all channels lists;
  1. Coordinate streaming flow with other users.

As there is only one server, you have the chance to add some more. For default it will appear www.tvants.com, but you can add also tracker.tvants.com and tracker2.tvants.com.. A tracker is nothing but a server that gives us all channels list. You can always find new ones doing a web research.

But where shall I find all these channels?

In Search chart you’ll find a list of all TV channels that are available in the chosen servers. It’ll be enough a double click to start the streaming. You can even visualize more than one channel at the same time.

Of course it is possible to do a channel research by keys, as the list can be too long. For every channel you will be shown its: kind, quality, bitrate, description, transmissions copyright and, among others, the number of all users connected to that streaming channel (audience). This figure is an important one as it follows the peer-to-peer rule: as much the users number watching the same video streaming is high as the channel quality improves.

If the channel name is green you can watch it in streaming, on the contrary if it is a red one TVAnts is trying a connection, if it is black it means that even if it is listed you cannot visualize it.

All channels you are visualizing are listed in the channels chart.

All remaining charts (Charts, Performance and Events) have a diagnostic function: they are useful to control connecting terms and what is happening during TVAnts performance.

TVAnts and router

Like all P2P programs, the main problem could be a possible firewall refraining a good performance (possible if you are connected to a router). TVAnts when started should show an advice, in case you have this kind of limitations. Anyway the used ports are the following ones: 16600, 16800, 16900.

For a more detailed guide about this Web Tv high quality level program functions and potentialities I suggest you to give a glance to the TVAnts user handbook. If you need further help look here.
