Hotlinking Become Easy On Firefox: ImageBot
If you want to avoid hotlinking when you need to publish on your blog an image you found online, in general, you have to:
- save the image file to your computer
- open it with a graphic editor to resize it/elaborate it
- open the FTP client or the blog’s control panel
- upload it to your web site
Imagebot is a great plugin for Firefox 3 that automatizes hotlinking in-a-click!

It really allows you to upload automatically images you find online at Imageshack (the free image hosting service) by using the right button on the mouse and copying the URL to the clipboard in real time for immediate reuse.
In configurations, you can configurate the automatic resizing or the HTML code from the link generated.
Imagebot will work even if you don’t have an Imageshack account, but I suggest that you open one to access all the images you saved.
The system’s been tested to insert images in the news section on the right at Ikaro.net’s homepage and it’s been so satisfactory that a paid account will probably be open in order to guarantee speed and bandwidth.
Here’s a short screencast to give an idea on how it works:
Imagebot seems not to be very agreeable with Flickr, because Flickr always blocks the access to it.
A special thanks to Tip and Tricks di Computer for indicating it and if this kind of functionality is of your interest, please read also PiccDrop: Host and Hotlink Images Online by makeuseof.com
I am using imagebot to add images to the news-channel on the right column of the home page, and it works so well that a’ill open a paid subscription in Imageshack.
